State Drill Meet - 18 March 2006

WARE JROTC DRILL TEAM

 STATE CHAMPIONS

The Ware County High School JROTC Drill Team won its eighth consecutive State Championship in precision drill Saturday, 18 March in Augusta.  “This championship is bittersweet,” stated SFC Eugene Ramos.  “Although we have won the Championship we will loose three seniors that have been here for four years taking us to half of our eight State Championships.  Not only have they carried us to this level of proficiency at the state level, Nicole McGauley, Michelle Duncan and Saponda Lee have been with this team for two of our three trips to the National Championships and have finished in the top ten in the nation at the Master’s level.”

Ware County won three first place awards, three second-place awards, a third place, one fourth, one fifth and a sixth place in Male Mixed Color Guard.  No other team of the sixty-one entered won as many awards as the Gators from Ware.  Michelle Duncan led the three seniors by finishing first in Unarmed Knockout Competition.  Duncan then teamed up with her four-year partner, Saponda Lee, in the Female Armed Dual Exhibition to win their second straight State Championship.  Lieutenant Colonel Duncan commanded the Female Armed Platoon Regulation Team to a second place finish while Lieutenant Colonel Lee led the Female Color Guard to a third place award.  Colonel Nicole McGualey commanded the Female Squad Armed Exhibition to a second place award and teamed with her partner, Captain Charity Felton to finish second in the Female Armed Dual Exhibition behind Duncan and Lee.  McGauley also commanded the Female Unarmed Platoon Regulation Team and finished fifth in that discipline.

The Ware County Team awards are:  First Place Individual Knockout, Michelle Duncan; First Place Female Dual Armed Exhibition Michelle Duncan and Saponda Lee; First Place Female Squad Armed Regulation commanded by Charity Felton; second place Female Armed Dual Exhibition, Nicole McGauley and Charity Felton; second place Female Armed Squad Exhibition commanded by Nicole McGauley; second place Female Armed Platoon Regulation commanded by Michelle Duncan; third place Female Color Guard commanded by Saponda Lee; fourth place Female Armed Individual Exhibition, Michelle Duncan; fifth place Female Unarmed Platoon Regulation commanded by Nicole McGauley and sixth place Male Mixed Color Guard commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Yu Ouyang.
